Research
Texture analysis and synthesis. My research interests have revolved around analysing digital image textures, and trying to understand the mathematical properties that define various different types of textures. How is it possible for a human to recognise similar textures, while detecting differences in others? Is it possible to synthesize a synthetic texture from a mathematical model that is indistinguishable but different from the original? Can such a process be made fast and reliable? If such a model exists, can the model then be used for texture recognition, giving a performance equivalent to that of a human?
There are no definitive answers to these types of questions, which leaves this research area open and fun to explore.
